The position or direction of peaks within a sound wave appears to have little effect on how we perceive sound. Intriguingly, sounds with a peak sharpness as low as 0.2Hz can be discernibly heard, underscoring that the frequency itself — or the repetitiveness of a signal — may not carry significant weight in auditory experience.

In nature, sound waves rarely exhibit perfect repetition; instead, they often display a more free-form quality. Consequently, our ability to recognize sounds seems to hinge on the characteristics of peak sharpness, quantity, and amplitude rather than on their frequency content. The traditional focus on frequency domain analysis and the use of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) in music may be misleading and does not effectively capture the essence of sound perception.
